
About the Festival
The Cheung Chau Bun Festival is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated annually on Cheung Chau Island. It features bun scrambling competitions and colorful parades.
The festival dates back to the Qing Dynasty over 100 years ago and was originally held to ward off the plague.
Events
Bun Scrambling Competition
Participants climb up tall bamboo towers covered in buns to grab as many buns as possible.
Floating Colors Parade
Children dressed as mythological characters "float" through the streets on stilts.
Opera Performances
Traditional Chinese opera performances are held throughout the festival period.
